Scorpios, Mykonos
A few summers ago my group of girlfriends and I set off on a true girl's summer vacay to celebrate a milestone birthday we all wish we could have waited another year to reach. We spent the best part of a week partying the nights away in Mykonos, while spending the days sunning ourselves on the terrace of a whitewash villa, indulging in endless plates of tzatziki and halloumi.
Mykonos has luxury, style, chic design, contemporary Mediterranean restaurants and a 24 hour party scene, for those up for it. Scorpios, hidden in a private bay on the desolate side of the island, encompasses it all.
The House is beautiful, all macrame hammocks, rattan baskets, wicker lampshades and terraces tiered by weathered stonewalls. In the summer months, the terrace is home to resident Australian DJs, Sneaky Sound System and Kaz James. During the day, the driftwood daybeds fill up quickly with party-goers and bottles of champagne, before each and every one becomes vacant at night when the crowds flock to the dance floor.Seeking solitude, the private beach offers respite in the few discrete wooden cabanas built to blend in discreetly with their natural surroundings. Upstairs, the restaurant serves an organic, local, predominantly vegetarian menu. There is meze, a selection of raw, cold and cooked seafood, salads, grilled meats and detoxifying juices.
